Universal Credit - Annual Rent Changes

From 1st April you will receive a new ‘to-do’ in your Universal Credit (UC) journal asking you to ‘Confirm your housing costs’.

All the details you need to complete this will be in your Rent Increase Letter. Do not update your rent details before the 1st April.

If you are on a Monthly Tenancy, the date you need to update your charges may not be the 1st April. You can check this on your Rent Increase Letter.

If you no longer have your Rent Increase Letter you can contact the Customer Relations Team on 0808 164 0111.

What you need to do on your journal


Step 1

When you click on the ‘To-do’ in your UC journal you will be taken to the screen shown here.

  • If your rent is charged weekly tick yes and then press continue.
  • If your rent is charged monthly first check your Rent Increase Letter, if your rent changes from 1st April tick yes then press continue.
  • If not select No, press continue and complete the changes on the date stated in your letter.

Step 2

If you selected Yes you will then be brought to the screen show here.

  • Weekly tenants select Yes and enter your weekly rent amount.
  • You will find the amount on your Rent Increase Letter. Please note this amount does not include service charges or any arrangement you have to pay rent arrears or rechargeable repairs.
  • Once you have entered the amount press continue. Monthly tenants, select no, you will then be given the option to enter your rent frequency.

Step 3

Once you have entered your rent charges you can now enter your eligible service charges. You will find the amount on your Rent Increase Letter. Please note this amount does not include ineligible service charges such as Water or Energy nor any arrangement you have to pay rent arrears or rechargeable repairs.

  • Once you have entered the amount press continue.
  • Monthly tenants, select no, you will then be given the option to enter your rent frequency.
  • You will then get a summary of everything you have entered, double check and if you are happy select confirm. Your details will then be passed to us to confirm. You will only be paid your Housing Costs if the details you have entered match with what is on your Rent Increase Letter.
