Brenda and Ken celebrate their Ruby wedding anniversary
Brenda and Ken Lightfoot, who live at Moordale Court in Redcar celebrated 55 years of marriage on Thursday 15 February. They met at the local ICI club in Eston. Ken asked Brenda out and 6 months later he proposed. They’ve never looked back.
Edna turns 100!
Happy 100th Birthday to Edna Halliday of Matfen Court, Chester-le-Street. Edna is originally from Pelton Fell but has lived in Matfen Court for 35 years. She celebrated on Sunday 11 February with her family who she adores.
Penny awarded BEM
Penny Walters from Byker has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in this year’s New Year’s honours list for her services to the Byker community. This included cooking meals for vulnerable families and overseeing the management of the community centre kitchen.
Christmas Island veteran receives nuclear test medal
John Johnson, an 83-year-old who lives at The Manors, our Extra Care scheme in Prudhoe, has been awarded the Nuclear Test Medal after serving during the Christmas Island nuclear testing programme between November 1962 and December 1963. Read the full story.
Happy 63rd Wedding Anniversary, Laurence and Doris!
Laurence and Doris McDermott from Lynwood House in Lanchester are celebrating 63 years of wedded bliss. The couple met at a dance in Stanley and have travelled all over Europe and America together, with Vienna being their favourite destination. The couple celebrated with a party at Lynwood House.
Fools for love
Geordie and Rose Dixon celebrated 57 years of marriage on April Fool’s Day. The couple, who live in The Haven, Prudhoe regularly go on holiday together and enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles and volunteering.
Happy retirement, Christine!
Last but by no means least, we have our very own Christine Parkin who is retiring as Scheme Coordinator at Magdelene Court. Christine has worked in the role for 35 years and is well loved by the residents and all of us here at Karbon.
