Recite Me are the provider of digital assistance software for the Karbon Homes website. This includes an assistive toolbar that has text-to-speech functionality, making our website more accessible and inclusive to those with visual impairments.
Thursday 18 May 2023, marks Global Accessibility Awareness Day, a key date in the calendar to get everyone talking, thinking, and learning about digital access and inclusion.
Over 1.3 billion people worldwide have a disability, of this number, it’s estimated that only 1 in 10 people in need have access to the assistive products that they need to read and understand digital content.
To support everyone online, regardless of their abilities, we have created an inclusive website to enable our staff, customers, and website visitors to customise their digital experience, to suit their own specific needs.
Every online user deserves a first-rate digital experience. No matter whether they have a visual impairment, a neurodiverse condition such as dyslexia, or require translation into another language. These users must be able to experience web-based services, content, and other digital products with the same successful outcome as those without disabilities.
When you visit our website, you access a variety of support tools to read and understand content in a way that works for you. These features include text-to-speech functionality, fully customisable styling features, multiple reading aids, and a translation tool with over 100 languages including 65 text-to-speech.
As well as this, as part of our Foundations For Life programme we have dedicated Digital Coaches who work with people on a 1-to-1 and small group basis to support in improving their confidence of using devices and online services. Click here to find out more.
Our Foundations For Life team contains Digital Coaches that can help you learn more about online services and using devices.
Di Keller, Strategic Equality Diversity and Inclusion Lead:
“Our customers are diverse and have diverse needs. We want to be proactive in providing access to our services in a way which supports them and improves their experience. We all operate in a more digital space and supporting our customers and providing them access is a given in today’s world. The accessibility software on our website and MyKarbon portal supports our customers to be independent.”
Together we can build an inclusive online world and this can start today on Global Accessibility Awareness Day. It’s not just about understanding why someone needs assistance, it’s about providing tools without question, as we work towards a fully inclusive digital world.
