Homes in the Northumberland town of Haltwhistle have benefitted from major investment thanks to a £1m regeneration programme.
Through the programme we've upgraded and modernised 55 flats and bungalows, with customers benefitting from a range of improvements including new roofing, window and door replacements, energy efficiency upgrades and re-rendering, to improve the external aesthetic of the properties.
The bungalows have benefitted from some external environmental works, to improve the paving and resolve some dampness and mould issues as a result.
Jonathan Fletcher, Director of Property Services at Karbon Homes, said: “We know how important it is to our customers that we continue to invest significantly in their homes and neighbourhoods, and programmes like this demonstrate our commitment to that ongoing investment.
“The works at Haltwhistle covered multiple elements, from improvements to the external aesthetics of the homes through to improvements to their efficiency and safety. It’s an approach that ensures our homes are fit for customers now and in the future, and it’s fantastic to receive such positive feedback from residents who have benefitted.”
The homes have also benefitted from cavity wall and loft insulation upgrades which has improved the energy efficiency of the homes, helping make them warmer, greener, and cheaper for customers to run.
Karbon customer Gail Ward had work done to her home where she’s lived for over 20 years.
“The homes were rather drab before, rather grey and miserable, but the investment has certainly brightened things up. The highlight for me has been the replacement of the windows, which has cut out the drafts and made the flat a lot warmer
“It can be very daunting to have major works carried out on your property but it’s been well worth having it done. The team on site were really interactive with residents, keeping us updated with progress and answering any questions we had, and the finished product has made such a difference.”
The 6-month project was delivered in partnership with regeneration specialist contractor RE:GEN North East.
Steve Young, Contracts Manager at RE:GEN North East, said: “It’s been fantastic to work with Karbon on this project, an organisation that shares our passion for customer care. The ongoing engagement with residents as the works progressed had a huge impact on the overall success of the programme. We look forward to building on this success in our current and future projects to improve more homes and enhance more lives through social housing regeneration.”
The investment work at Haltwhistle is part of our multi-million-pound planned investment programme, that in the last financial year saw us spend over £29million on ensuring our homes meet the Decent Homes Standard.
The coming year will see us spend £36million through our planned maintenance programme, to ensure both our current and future customers have well-maintained homes to live in.
