Have your say on our plans for a new Extra Care scheme in Hebburn

We’d love to hear your thoughts on our plans to bring a new, cutting-edge Extra Care scheme to Hebburn.

Working closely with South Tyneside Council, Karbon Homes is submitting a planning application to bring a 96 home scheme to a site in Hebburn town centre, adjacent to Hebburn central.

The homes will consist of a mix of one and two bed apartments, 17 of which will be designed for people with dementia.

If approved the scheme will offer housing and care to people of varying ages with additional support needs, helping to address the lack of specialist affordable accommodation options in the area.

Feedback received will be shared with the design team and used to help shape the scheme, where appropriate, ahead of them submitting the application. We welcome your comments relating to the new homes themselves, as well as the schemes design, layout, access, landscaping and community offer.

Visit our dedicated feedback page to have a look and leave comments on the site plan.

Additional information on the proposed scheme

  • 96 homes, made up of 20 two-bed apartments and 75 one-bed apartments
  • 17 of these one-bed apartments will be specially designed for residents with dementia, with secure access and egress systems for security
  • Mobility scooter storage within each flat
  • An accessible bistro/café on the ground floor of the scheme, which will be open to the general public
  • Multi-use spaces for activities, which will be available for use by the general public
  • Integrated garden space for residents, with level access
  • Health and wellbeing suite for residents, for use during health professional visits

The scheme forms part of the Council’s wider Adult Social Care Accommodation Strategy aimed at supporting people who may need care and support to live independently in the community.

This is in line with the Council’s ambition to help people stay well and healthy throughout their lives and is in direct response to feedback from residents who said they would prefer to live well independently, rather than go into residential care.
