Inside and out - renovations are all go!

We’re putting the finishing touches to a huge programme of renovations in two Karbon communities. Let’s take a tour of the results…

Stop one: Heaton, Newcastle

At Northfields and Southfields House in Heaton, Newcastle, customers are now enjoying fresh new bathrooms.

This renovation programme saw 35 new bathrooms and wet rooms installed, each tailored to the needs of the customer and designed to help maintain their independence.

Pamela Newbury shows us the difference it’s made to her home. “My old bath was too high for me but I really wanted to still have a bath so the team suggested putting in a lower one and it’s now much easier to get in and out of.

The shower is lovely and powerful and the water on my shoulders really helps my muscles. The lads who did the work were really canny and made it a straightforward job. I’m over the moon with the results.”

Stop two: Hadston, Northumberland

Over the past ten months, improvements worth £1.35 million have been made to 115 houses and bungalows in the village.

Work included structural maintenance and upgrades to homes, as well as roofing, fencing and energy efficiency improvements.

And when the work was completed, the Karbon team joined colleagues from regeneration specialist contractor RE:GEN on a community clean-up to help get the neighbourhood looking tidy and help customers clear items that were difficult to dispose of.

Paul Dove and Zoe Elliott had work completed on the home they’ve lived in for 13 years. “I am so impressed with what’s been done and so pleased with the difference it’s made to our home,” said Paul.

"Our son has autism and doesn’t cope well with loud noise or disruption, but the team were brilliant and made sure to work around him, scheduling the big, noisy work for the days he was out at college. It was just a small thing but made us feel really valued.”

“Just one element was adding the extra insulation around the dormer windows and now it’s noticeably warmer in both the bedrooms and I’ve seen a drop in our gas bill, which is brilliant with the cost of energy going up."

"This work is part of a larger, £14 million  investment programme, designed to ensure Karbon communities are great places to live. We’re really pleased with the results, and more importantly, the positive feedback received from customers. We want to say a big thank you to customers for allowing us into their homes to carry out the improvements."
