This summer, we were thrilled to be able to support a grassroots neighbourhood youth project to put on fun holiday activities for local children and young people.
The Patchwork Project in Benwell received £3,000 from our Community Investment Fund to put on a programme of activities over the summer holidays, giving children and young people in the area the chance to have a fun, healthy, safe and happy holiday.
The activities included five Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, including the Lake District and Teesdale, trips to Durham, Edinburgh, North and South Shields, visits to museums and Lightwater Valley theme park, along with trampolining, bike rides, beach trips and a lot of visits to swimming pools as the temperatures soared.
Andi Kewley from the Patchwork Project was extremely grateful for the support Karbon provided:
“We wanted to say a big thank you to Karbon Homes on behalf of the children and young people of Benwell, Elswick and Scotswood, who were able to participate in our programme of activities due to their support. It has been greatly appreciated.
“Our project has been running for 21 years and is seen in the community as an essential part of children’s childhood, this is because Patchwork spends money directly on children and young people in order to enhance their lives.”
The Patchwork Project supports hundreds of children in one of the most culturally diverse areas in Newcastle. Their aim is to lessen the effects of poverty and improve the life chance of children and young people aged 8-25 years with informal education activities.
Our Assistant Director of Community and Customer Engagement, Philip Pollard was thrilled to hear about the Patchwork Project's success:
“It’s fantastic to see the impact that our funding can have for organisations like the Patchwork Project and the children and young people they support.
“We want to make sure we can support local initiatives so that they can provide these experiences, helping children and young people to mix and socialise with others and shaping strong, sustainable places for our communities.”
Our grants aim to support projects that make a real difference people’s lives and wellbeing with the communities in which we work.
We welcome applications from not-for-profit and voluntary organisations as well as local schools.
