A new development of 45 affordable homes near Houghton-le-Spring has been given the seal of approval by local MP Bridget Phillipson, after a visit to the site to see construction underway.
Accompanied by colleagues from developer Karbon Homes and main contractor Adderstone Living, the Labour MP for Houghton and Sunderland South had a first look at the new homes, which are being built using timber frame construction and will all meet an EPC rating of A, which is the highest energy efficiency rating.
Viewing the homes under construction, Bridget was impressed not only with the affordability of the new homes but the high standards to which they were being built.
She said: "It’s great to see the progress of these new affordable homes which are providing fantastic options for local people.
“The high quality of the development is impressive and it’s great to see that Karbon is investing in ensuring these homes meet the highest building and energy efficiency standards.
“The next Labour government will put communities at the heart of good place making to deliver high-quality, zero-carbon affordable new homes.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the homes finished and welcoming new residents to our community.”
The new Redburn View development on the site south of Chilton Moor, will consist of a mixture of two- and three-bedroom properties, including bungalows, and detached and semi-detached houses.
The new homes will provide much needed affordable housing in the area and will be available for affordable rent as well as Rent to Buy, a scheme allowing residents to pay 80% of market rent while they save towards a deposit to buy the house.
Sarah Robson, Director of Development and Regeneration at Karbon Homes, said: “It was great to have Bridget visit our development of new homes at Redburn View and to receive such positive feedback from her on its progress so far.
“We’re committed to building more new homes which help tackle the UK’s housing shortage and Redburn View is an example of how, in doing this, we ensure we’re meeting the needs of the local community, providing a mix of property types and sizes for residents at varying stages of life.”
The new homes have been designed to meet the highest energy efficiency standard and have been fitted with integrated solar panels so residents can benefit from renewable energy.
Phase one of the development is due to be completed in Summer 2023. For more information contact Karbon’s Sales and Marketing team on salesandmarketing@karbonhomes.co.uk or 0191 223 8749.
