Jemma Kennedy and her team at Creative Kitchen are always a huge hit with Karbon Homes' families when they run their kids’ cooking classes. So, we asked them to design us some holiday treats little hands will love to make.
Hello Jemma! Tell us bit about yourself please
I used to be a school food teacher and loved getting kids involved in exploring food, having fun in the kitchen and gaining the confidence to feed themselves. I found I had too many ideas to fit into my teaching hours, so I decided to set up my own creative cooking school!
What makes Creative Kitchen different?
The whole idea is to inspire children to develop a love of cooking and food by having fun. Our interactive, themed sessions are suitable for toddlers to teens and they give young people the chance to try different ingredients and learn lifelong skills. I’m a big fan of helping kids develop skills early in life and I’ll tell parents to use imaginary ribbon to tie their hands behind their backs while I get their 18-month-old to crack an egg and whisk it! Karbon regularly funds our sessions so families can get a chance to get creative in their own kitchens.
What have you chosen to cook with us and why?
We’re making elf truffles, which are perfect for some hands-on holiday cooking fun. Lots of crushing, mixing, shaping, and decorating…. there’s sure to be lots of taste testing and chocolatey faces too!
The recipe can be easily adapted to include what’s in the cupboard and mixed up to create lots of different flavour and decoration combinations. Elf truffles are so fun to create, yet so simple. They can be made with as few as three ingredients! All you need is biscuits, soft cheese, and icing sugar.

Bite-sized treats with a rich, creamy, biscuity centre
A perfect treat for Santa’s plate or for an after-dinner treat. Or why not pop in a pretty bag to give to someone special?
Ingredients
8 biscuits* (wheat)
25g cream cheese* (milk)
1 tbsp icing sugar / cocoa powder
or sprinkles
*Ingredients contain allergens
How it's done
Get ready! Wash hands, tie any long hair up and pop an apron on.
Add biscuits to a sandwich bag and seal. Crush the biscuits using a rolling pin until they look like sand. Place to one side.
Scoop cream cheese into the mixing bowl and use a spatula to mix lightly to soften.
Add the crushed biscuit gradually, stirring continually until all the mixture is added and begins to come together.
Use your hands to roll the mixture into small balls. Wet your hands between creating each truffle ball, this will prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands. If the balls aren’t firm place in the fridge to chill for 20 mins.
Decorate your truffle, by taking each truffle in turn and gently roll in icing sugar / cocoa powder or sprinkles, making sure the truffle is fully coated.
Place on a tray and chill in the fridge until firm.
Pop each truffle in a small cupcake case and they’re ready for sharing. Store in airtight container in the fridge. Consume within 7 days.
