A new pop-up branch of Barclays has arrived in Stanley, reintroducing its in-person banking services to the town.
The pop-up branch is based at our Skills Hub on Stanley Front Street three days a week, providing easy access to key services for customers with digital and complex banking needs.
Susan Theobald, Barclays Customer Care Leader said: “We’re delighted to open the Barclays Local service here in Stanley, working in partnership with Karbon Homes to offer a new, more flexible way for our colleagues to continue to support customers with their banking needs.”
Barclays staff will be on hand at the hub, offering face-to-face advice and support for customers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with appointments available both in the morning and afternoon.
Philip Pollard, Assistant Director of Customer and Community Engagement at Karbon Homes, said: “Stanley has seen a number of banking groups close their branches doors, due to dropping numbers of users.
“This has had a negative impact on various groups in the community who struggle to access services online, so it’s great to be able to work with Barclays to bring a pop-up branch to the Skills Hub and reintroduce its valuable in-person services back to the high street.”
“A knock-on positive effect of this is bringing more people back to the high street, which has sadly seen a steady decline over the last couple of years. More money spent on the high street will help boost the local economy.”
The opening has been welcomed by local MP for North Durham, Kevan Jones.
Kevan said: “I was pleased to officially open the new Barclays pop-up branch in Stanley.
“Residents will be able to sort out their banking in a central location and can also take advantage of the other facilities available at the Karbon skills hub, including skills training.
“I hope that the new service will bring people into the town centre and I’m sure that it will be greatly appreciated by my constituents.”
The Barclays pop-up branch at the Skills Hub is just one of a number of services residents can access from the facility.
The hub’s primary offer is employment advice, qualification and training support, digital skills coaching, and literacy and numeracy tuition, all designed to help local residents build their confidence and skills.
The adjacent building is home to our partner North East First Credit Union, which offers residents a selection of financial support, including affordable loans and savings to help people manage their finances.
Barclays is on site at the Skills Hub Tuesday – Thursday. Drop-in appointments are available between 9.30am and 11am and bookable appointments from 11.30am onwards. Appointments with Barclays can be booked online at https://events.uk.barclays/local/
