Our fantastic new St Cuthbert’s independent living scheme in Hexham, Northumberland has won the prestigious Northern Housing Award for Supported / Sheltered Housing Scheme of the Year.
The £6.7m building, right in the heart of a conservation area in the historic market town, was lauded for the development team delivering such a high-quality building on a difficult site.
St Cuthbert’s is a development of 38 supported flats for older residents, all for Affordable Rent.
Homes England contributing £1.6m of grant funding to the development.
The building was developed on a long, narrow, sloping site with neighbouring homes on all sides, so the construction process was demanding to manage.
Our development delivery colleagues worked closely with main contractor Tolent Construction, architect HMH Architects, 3E Consulting Engineers and project managers Hall & Partners to bring the project to fruition.
Karen Owens, from Procare, the sponsor of the award, said: “We have had so much positive feedback from the judges about this category, and in particular, this St Cuthbert’s scheme demonstrates how difficult sites can be to transform and how flexible design supports independent living going forward.
“What a fantastic scheme you’ve produced there. Well done to everybody that was involved.”
