“As lots of families face one of the hardest Christmases ever, there’s never been a more important time to support those charities that offer vital support.”
That’s the message from one of Karbon’s Community Connectors Lindsey Porter, who is urging people to consider supporting North East food charity Feeding Families in any way they can in the run up to Christmas.
Lindsey said: “Feeding Families is a brilliant charity and the support they offer to families in crisis at this time of the year makes such a difference.
“There are multiple ways that people can support the charity, with an option to suit everyone. We’re urging Karbon colleagues, customers and local communities to consider how they may be able to offer support over the coming months when demand for food boxes is at an all-time high.”
This year there are various ways people can support
- Your time - Feeding Families are always looking for volunteers to help with Box packing, Driving, Food collections and Fundraising

- Give items of food to one of the centres or collection points
- Donate a virtual hamper – Feeding Families will make up a box in your name and put a label on to say who donated it.
- Give a matched Christmas dinner – get matched with a family, buy all items from a Christmas dinner list and deliver it to their home.

Turning their words to actions, Lindsey and her fellow Karbon Community Investment colleagues donated their time to the charity with a volunteering day, helping to sort donations at the charities centre in Blaydon and make up food boxes.
Paul Moralee, Community Investment Manager at Karbon Homes, said: “Feeding Families provides vital support to families struggling and we were really keen to support them in the run up to what is a particularly busy time for the team.
“Getting stuck in behind the scenes and seeing all the hard work in action, really opens your eyes to what a huge task they take on each year to ensure as many families as possible can enjoy a Christmas dinner together.”
Feeding Families offers support, hope and security to those experiencing food poverty, working closely with other organisations and agencies to ensure that thousands of families in crisis have access to Emergency Food Boxes and support packages.
