Friday 25 November marks this year’s White Ribbon Day – a movement to end male violence against women and girls. The day coincides with the international 16 days of action campaign, further raising awareness of the issue of violence against women and girls, including Domestic Abuse, as well as signposting to support organisations.
This year, White Ribbon Day also falls on the same week as the start of the FIFA men’s World Cup. You may have seen the article we shared last week about the link between high-profile sports events and reported cases of domestic abuse. This highlights that there has never been a better time for us to come together with the goal to start playing as a team to end violence against women and girls.
Our Community Safety Manager, Laurie Edmundson has been at the forefront of raising awareness of this vital message amongst customers and colleagues:
“It’s important to us that our communities are safe places for everyone and supporting White Ribbon is another vital way we can do this.
“This year we are supporting the White Ribbon campaign with the aim of starting an accreditation process in the coming months. As part of our support, we’ve been able to take steps to start sharing the White Ribbon message, and we are now encouraging all our colleagues to make the White Ribbon Promise to never use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women.
“In the future we will be focusing more on this important movement, creating events and activities to raise awareness and ensuring that women who are experiencing violence know where to get help.”
All men can join the team to end violence against women and girls – which is #TheGoal. Whether you're a football fan or not, we can work together to achieve gender equality. White Ribbon Day 2022 highlights 11 traits men and boys can nurture to help create a world of equality and safety for women:
Over the 16 days of action campaign (starting 25 November and running until 10 December, Human Rights Day), we're encouraging all our colleagues, but specifically our male colleagues, to make the White Ribbon Promise to never use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women. By doing so, you’re becoming part of a wider movement to end violence and helping to make a difference to the lives of many people.
