We’ve been awarded the ‘Continuing Excellence’ level of the Better Health At Work Award NE & Cumbria, one level up from the Gold award we received last year.
Here at Karbon, our culture is all about ensuring and optimising our colleagues’ health and wellbeing, with our activity focused on areas that colleagues have told us are important to them, such as:
• The introduction of Mental Health Allies and mental health training for line managers.
• Our Employee Assistance Programme.
• Health cash plan and financial wellbeing support.
• Calendar of wellbeing campaigns and initiatives.
• Karbon-funded memberships to Headspace and Wellness Cloud.
Dawn Morris, our Senior People and Organisational Development Business Partner said:
“It’s great to achieve the Continued Excellence level award in recognition for all the campaigns, resources and benefits Karbon offers colleagues and also the work we do with customers and communities to support their health and wellbeing.
Achieving the Continued Excellence level recognises how committed Karbon is to embedding health and wellbeing into the infrastructure of the organisation.
We’ve worked hard to continue the promotion of positive wellbeing into every fibre of the organisation, working alongside colleagues to ensure there’s something on offer to suit everyone, and we’re particularly proud that this award recognises our efforts to make health and wellbeing an everyday part of what we do at Karbon.”
Continuing Excellence is the fourth of six levels of the award, preceded by Bronze, Silver and Gold, and bettered only by the ‘Maintaining Excellence’ and ‘Ambassador’ awards. Organisations are given up to a year per level, and we’re already trying to achieve the next one. We were presented with the award back in March at a celebration event for organisations taking part.

The assessors were really impressed with the contribution of our Health Advocates and Mental Health Allies, along with the overall approach we take to colleagues’ wellbeing. They noted the following:
“Karbon's awareness of the need to ensure health and wellbeing is integrated into the fabric of the organisation and its proactive approach to embedding has been a burgeoning strength over the life of their Award journey and has become ever more tangible over the last couple of years.
Their People Strategic Plan talks about achieving a 'balance between a sound business head and strong social heart' and every aspect is driven by continuous improvement principles. Inclusion & belonging is a culture focus and all of this together demonstrates an excellent ethos.”
We’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge well done to everyone involved in shaping colleague wellbeing at Karbon - this award recognizes your excellent work.
