But one thing they all have in common? They help improve the lives of our customers.
Thanks to a vital boost in funding from the UK Government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation fund, Karbon is set to improve the efficiency of more of its homes, by investing close to £2.5million in a range of energy saving measures over the next 14 months.
Karbon customer Kerry is one of many reaping the benefits of a warmer home after having external wall insulation (EWI) fitted to her terrace home on Adderlane Road in Prudhoe.
“My heating used to be on practically all day for us to be comfortable, but now, after just an hour or so, the house is always nice and warm and most importantly, it stays warm after the heating has knocked off.
“The work itself was no problem. I was one of a number of houses on the row having the work done and no sooner had they started my house, it was done. I’d say a couple of days at most.
“They had to remove all the old pebbledash which meant it was quite noisy and messy work, but the workmen who came were very respectful and extra careful not to bring too much of the mess into the house as they came in and out. I felt quite comfortable having them here.”
EWI has been proven to save residents hundreds of pounds on their heating bills each year, as well as close to 600kg of CO2 emissions (Energy Saving Trust, November 21).
Kerry said: “I would seriously recommend having external wall insulation fitted, it’s made such an improvement. It’s been a weight off my mind not constantly worrying about the impact that having the heating on for long periods of time will have on my bills. I am on a pre-payment meter and with the rising cost of gas I dread to think what situation I would be in now if the house was as it was.”
