Karbon strikes gold in its approach to colleague health and wellbeing

Karbon Homes’ commitment to helping colleagues look after their mental and physical health has been applauded for the work they are going in health and wellbeing in the workplace. 

This autumn the northern housing association has achieved the Better Health at Work Awards Gold level accreditation, a programme which recognises the achievements of employers in the North East and Cumbria in promoting healthy lifestyles and considering the health of their employees. 

Dawn Morris, Senior People and Organisational Development Business Partner at Karbon Homes, said: “It’s great to achieve the Gold level award in recognition for all the campaigns, resources and benefits Karbon offers colleagues to support their health and wellbeing.   

"We’ve worked hard to embed the promotion of positive wellbeing into every fibre of the organisation, working alongside colleagues to ensure there’s something on offer to suit everyone, and we’re particularly proud that this award recognises this effort to make health and wellbeing an everyday part of what we do at Karbon.” 

Achieving the Gold level recognises Karbon’s health and wellbeing commitment across a wide range of topics positive organisational wellbeing 

Better Health at Work Programme Coordinator, Susanne Nichol, who was one of the Assessors, said: “Karbon Homes is a worthy recipient of the Gold level award. The organisation is really striving to become exemplar when it comes to workplace health and wellbeing through its offering of a number of comprehensive support mechanisms and innovative initiatives - all delivered to a very high quality standard. 

“The wellbeing activity in place is relevant, engaging and interactive and it is clear what a positive impact it is having on Karbon colleagues. They are also demonstrating great ambassadorship and delivering an even wider impact, and by always sharing their best practice and resources with the other workplaces on the award.” 

Gold is the third of five levels of the award. Organisations are given up to a year per level and work is already underway towards Karbon achieving the next level of the award – Continuing Excellence. 

Dawn added: "Better Health at Work scheme has been a great programme to follow and has provided a framework to balance the needs for good policy and procedure alongside engaging activity. We now have our sights set on the next level of the award, building on the work we’ve already done and creating a health and wellbeing approach that’s second to none.”
